Plot:

Since 1973, an invasion of aliens known as BETA upon Earth is driving human civilization into nearly collapse. Facing an enormous mass of enemy force, mankind has developed large humanoid arms called as Tactical Surface Fighters and deployed them to its defense lines through out the world. However, all those efforts could slow down defeats but could not stop BETA, and mankind is forced to abandon major area of the Eurasian Continent. For 30 years, mankind is bogged down in an endless war against BETA without any hopes of victory.
In 2001, the Imperial Japan faces difficulties in the development of a next-generation main Tactical Surface Fighters (TSF) as it defends the front lines of the Far East. The UN has proposed a joint development program between the Imperial Japan and the United States as a part of its international mutual development project of TSF, the Prominence Project.
Yui Takamura, a surface pilot of the Imperial Royal Guards of Japan, is given responsibility for the project and sets off to Alaska. Meanwhile, Yuya Bridges, also a surface pilot of the US Army, was heading to the same destination.
Yet they never knew that their encounter would change their destiny drastically.
This story with exciting human dramas and robot actions takes place in the development of a new Tactical Surface Fighters, the most important and effective weapons against BETA, at a crisis of human extinction.

Yuuya Bridges (ユウヤ・ブリッジス)

The protagonist of Total Eclipse. A Japanese American from the American army. An excellent US Army test pilot sent to the Yukon Base in Alaska to be the chief development pilot of the XFJ Plan. The son of a Japanese father and an American mother, he holds a complex born from his childhood experiences.
Chobi often refers to him as "Top Gun."
For some reason he and Yui don't see eye to eye despite of the fact that she outranks him and he's very oblivious about her feelings for him.

Yui Takamura (篁唯依)
Voiced by: Mai Nakahara
A First Lieutenant in Japan's Imperial Royal Guard, and member of a distinguished samurai family which has served the Japanese Shogunate for generations.
As the daughter of a legendary soldier involved in the development of the Tactical Surface Fighter she has a strict character. Dispatched to Yukon Base as the Imperial Japanese attendant of the XFJ Plan.
She and Yuuya don't see eye to eye, though surprisingly she does display acts of jealousy in ep.7 when she saw Yuuya hugging Cryska and mistakenly thought that the two were having a tryst, but actually Cryska collapsed and Yuuya simply caught her. It suggests that even if she and Yuuya seemingly are at odds with each other, she actually does care for him. Yuuya often calls her "Japanese Doll" usually behind her back.

Cryska Barchenowa (クリスカ・ビャーチェノワ)

Cryska Barchenowa is a Soviet TSF pilot.

Inia Sestina (イーニァ・シェスチナ)
Voiced by: Mamiko Noto
Inia Sestina is a Soviet TSF pilot. She prefers to hang around Cryska, whom she calls "sister", and often carries a teddy bear. Later on she befriends Yuuya and has become comfortable being around him, she even invites him to her bunker. Which nearly puts Yuuya in deep trouble with her superiors.
